It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Tim Edwards.Tim was a long time tuba player in Coleshill Town Band and for a short period chairman of the band. But it was the time and support he gave to Coleshill Youth Brass & Coleshill Beginner Brass that he will be mostly remembered for. He was a great support and inspiration to all the young musicians but especially any young tuba players that came through the band.Tim was also one of those band members that gave a lot of time to help the smooth running of the band - helping transport (larger) equipment to concerts, helping set up both before rehearsals and concerts and also being very generous in his financial support of the band.He was also an avid fan of the brass band movement. Always listening to CD’s at home and in his car, especially on his regular long drives to south Wales to watch his second favourite band, after Coleshill, the Cory Band. Supporting Cory both in concert and rehearsal enabled him to create a link between the two bands that provided Coleshill Youth Brass members the opportunity to meet Cory Band players after a concert in Birmingham and also receive tuition.Tim’s experience, support and friendship will be greatly missed. ... This evening was the last COLESHILL BEGINNER BRASS rehearsal before the Easter break and what a rehearsal! With pretty much full attendance, it was an opportunity to have a go at a complete run through of ‘Divertimento’ by Stephen Wood - this is piece we will be performing at the Nuneaton Festival of Arts in May. Really working as a team, the players rose to the challenge and worked so hard to put in to practice everything we’ve been working on to produce a really good performance.I’m very proud of the enthusiastic attitude of the band and am already looking forward to our next rehearsal after the Easter break. ... Fantastic! A great performance by COLESHILL YOUTH BRASS in the unregistered section of the Oxfordshire & District Brass Band Association winter concert was rewarded with three trophies!Playing the test piece ‘Stantonbury Festival’ by Ray Steadman-Allen, CYB played this detailed piece of music with great understanding and musicality and came 2nd out of 6 bands - winning a very large trophy! We were also awarded a prize for ‘the band with most under 18 year old players’ and another trophy for ‘the youngest player’ - Bramwell Fagg, 8 years old! Both of these awards were for the whole weekend’s contesting - out of all 41 bands taking part over the weekend.I am so proud of everyone for the hard work they have put in to rehearsing the test piece. It has been a nice change to start the year working on one, longer piece of music in real detail. The band has really benefited from this and we can take this good work into all the new music we will now be rehearsing for forthcoming Spring concerts at St. Barnabas Church and Water Orton Church.Thank you to everyone - players, family members and supporters. ...
